BKK1 & Independence Monument Area

T he Independence Monument area and Boeung Keng Kang (BKK1) has been considered the foreigner’s quarter since the 80s. BKK1 has long been home to many NGOs as well as businesses catering to expats and tourists, and is now booming with new restaurants, bars and hotels. Hotels in the area tend to be lower mid- range and upscale boutique places. Dozens of restaurants are scattered across BKK1 with new ones popping up all the time including international brands like Burger King, Domino’s and KFC. Most of the bars and clubs in the area are at the north end of BKK1, especially along Streets 278 and 282 , and across Norodom Blvd on Streets 308, 29, 21, and in the micro-bar enclave of Bassac Lane.
